Teaching students to discern syntactic functions of phrases in English

Abstract: This article attempts to assist the bachelor level education students to discern major syntactic functions of phrases in English. It primarily deals with noun phrase, verb phrase, adjective phrase, adverb phrase and prepositional phrase and their syntactic functions which are to be studied in the grammar subject. The article writer has pursued the inductive method by demonstrating some examples of syntactic functions of phrases in the beginning, explaining them and then drawing the particular function from the examples. This article primarily deals with the function subject, predicator, subject attribute, object attribute, direct object, indirect object, benefactive object, predicator complement along with pre determiner and post determiner. This article is significant to those who are concerned with teaching learning grammar.
