Stylistics is the study of language and the language of literature in all its manifestation and is, one of the moderate approaches to literature. The present paper is a modest attempt to re-evaluate the gradual development in the discipline from old discourse to the modern including the ideas of Michael Halliday, Widowson and Geoffrey Hartman. A special focus has been laid on the concept of ‘Style’ tracing back from ancient understanding to the modern conceptions of the term. At the end of the paper, a stylistic analysis has also been made to practically observe the stylisticians’ assumptions of discourse analysis.
