Abstract
How Indian mythology has been taken into a contemporary frame and how the mythological texts of India have been reconstructed through contemporary devices, humanised characters and reinterpreted values of ethics and culture in Amish Tripathi's fiction are analysed in this study. The paper analyses how Tripathi negotiates the tension between inherited myths and modern narrative sensibilities explore the implications of this approach on the cultural imagination of contemporary India. Textual Analysis is done in which selected novels from The Shiva Trilogy and Ram Chandra Series are examined. Characterisation, narrative reconstruction, myth-history intersections, symbolism, morality, divinity and representation of human identity are examined. The study finds that Tripathi transformed hitherto sacred figures into psychologically realistic protagonists and rendered a living narrative to mythology where issues related to leadership, justice, identity, social order, ethics choice and challenges related to life can be dealt accordingly. The findings provide a framework for incorporating contemporary mythological fiction into literary studies and popular culture, thereby encouraging discussion of modern interpretation and impact. It presents a critical approach to understanding why contemporary mythological retellings exist besides being story revisions but are active cultural negotiations or rethinking processes.
