Authors

Abstract
Ecocriticism has emerged as one of the most influential approaches in
contemporary literary studies, examining the relationship between literature
and the natural environment. Among its pioneering scholars, William Rueckert
and Cheryll Glotfelty occupy central positions for establishing the theoretical
foundations of the discipline. William Rueckert introduced the term ecocriticism in his 1978 essay "Literature and
Ecology: An Experiment in Ecocriticism," while Cheryll Glotfelty
institutionalized and expanded the field through her influential anthology The
Ecocriticism Reader (1996). This article explores their contributions, compares
their theoretical perspectives, and evaluates their lasting influence on
environmental literary criticism.
